If an editor is creating a link to a PDF or Word Doc they've uploaded into the Media Section of Umbraco, from the Rich Text Area, when they come to select the document, there is the generic document icon displayed, regardless of whether the file is a PDF or a Word Doc.

They can go back into the Media section and rename their document [PDF] - title of pdf, to help them distinguish here, but I was wondering, since we know the extension of the file at the point of picker (to exclude SVGs) then would there be any UI appetite for display an icon that represented a PDF etc, or whether just adding the text of the extension, under the existing document icon, is more pragmatic...

That would definitely be very great!

We already have this overlay, see screenshot (which is supposed to be on top of the icon, this will be fixed in 7.12) when you open an item in the media section and it would be good to replicate that to the picker.

I've marked as "Up for grabs" so that you or someone else coming along could create a pull request for it.

@sebastiaan I can't see your screenshot... do you mean the overlaying of the file extension name on the uploaded file icon?

So it would look something like this:

@marcemarc It was this screenshot: http://issues.umbraco.org/_persistent/image.png?file=64-7150&v=0&c=true&rw=1247&rh=616&u=1535615387107

So yep, just with the label on the left I guess ;-)

@sebastiaan ok, have put something together here, that perhaps might work, or at least start the ball rolling: https://github.com/umbraco/Umbraco-CMS/pull/2895/files
