I try to use the 'allow macro in editor' setting at little as possible because there is just too great a chance for content editors to put the wrong macro on a page. It would help greatly if it were possible to limit which document types can use which macros in the editor.
For instance, a 'promo rotator' macro might only be allowed on product pages rather than on every page in the site, as is now possible. Not all macros that are allowed in the RTE editor are appropriate on all pages.
By default, the behaviour would be as it is now... allowed on all doctypes.
There would also be a link with a popup window that shows a list of all doctypes which can be selected. If any doctypes are ticked the link next to the 'allow in editor' box would note how many doctypes are selected/allowed.
The way the 'choose...' link for a content picker or media picker works might be a way to display this consistently without reinventing the wheel from a UI perspective. It also has the advantage of allowing a quick way to delete any selections.
Whatever UI is used, having the ability to limit macros to specific document types would be very beneficial for users and site builders alike.

This is still a valid and useful feature request.
Maybe add the option to limit to certain data types too.
