This is a feature that has been requested from a client for over 2 years now and the only thing we can tell them is that there is no one working on it. There has been some discussion about it on http://issues.umbraco.org/issue/U4-10#comment=67-4679 and http://our.umbraco.org/forum/ourumb-dev-forum/features/9132-Media-User-Permissions but I have not seen any plans to rework this.

Since "Media is content, it has all of the same features" an admin should be able to restrict Media in the same way it can restrict Content.

Our client don't want certain users to view/edit certain Media nodes and their children from the backend so that they don't change things that has already been published.

This is sorely needed! I have several clients who need to be able to allow certain editors (or even writers) to be able to access certain media folders. In addition, I have clients who need to be able to update/change design images.

Neither is currently really an option since all users have full access to all media.

In the meantime, I'm stuck creating image property fields in my doctypes so I can protect them by virtue of their access under the content tree. Ugly, ugly, ugly.

I also really think this is desperately needed. I am currently working on a multi-site, multi-user system and at the moment I cannot restrict users to certain media folders.

Agreed, this is much needed when working with a large site. Our University uses Umbraco and it's difficult to give users access to multiple nodes without the ability to set permissions on the media nodes.

+1 This is one of the requests our clients usually have

Jack Lawry 09 Mar 2017, 10:01:57

This is the main request clients normally have...

Please can this be looked at even if basic permissions to stop user roles deleting or renaming files. Or worse entire media folders with sub folders etc
