When I click an icon in the left column, I expect that the panel will stay open until I want to close it. ie. when click away or click an x in the top right.
On an ipad, there is no hover. When you tap the icon, the panel slides out and stays open. I would like the same experience on a desktop.
On a desktop it's ok to slide in and out if I'm hovering just to see what is there. But if I click the icon, I want the panel to stay open.
Not going to happen for v7.0, but a "pinned" state could be added to the tree, we are looking into a couple of options for this
I second this request. What I think would be best is if there were a 'pin' button, perhaps above the Help icon on the black sidebar, to switch between pinning the menus open, and the current behavior. When the menus are pinned open, the content to the right should move over so that nothing is obscured by the menu. I think I would end up using it pinned open most of the time, so I'd love to see this feature added.

Definitely needs to stay open.
It really needs to stay open, and also update accordingly when actions change the content its displaying i.e CRUD actions on the content tree.
Also, why doesn't the title in the pane not trigger the action? currently you have to click on the ellipsis icon on the right hand side. Even worse, clicking the title closes the pane which is the opposite of what you'd expect.
