I was playing with the new package model today and found suddenly my installation stopped working. The page returned 500 internal error but no error message - I had customErrors set to "Off" and tried to figure out what was wrong but did not get any error message. I tried to restart IIS, no success.
Then i realized that I have added a comment o the manifest file, like this:

Removing that comment solved the problem - but I guess that the error message could have been better.
It is in the plans to add, maybe not in time for 7.0 tho,
Surely we want to solve this in v7?? We need to have proper error checking when parsing the file, i don't think this is a feature request, it's a bug.
Just throwing a better error is probably more than enough
