Using Win 8 or 8.1 with touch-based nav gestures causes the nav to "fly-out" and return to collapsed. A "long" touch results in the right-click menu for the browser to be displayed. This with IE 10 / IE 11.

So, it seems IE11 is supposed to support this with no special consideration but IE10 has a hackey workaround http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj152141(v=vs.85).aspx Works fine on iPad.
Could you re-test this with the latest nightly? seems to be fixed now on my loaner-surface which is IE10 tho
