U4-3726 - RTE Source Editor randomly fails to render

Created by Phill Hodgkinson 26 Nov 2013, 17:12:17 Updated by Shannon Deminick 21 Jun 2017, 07:58:45

Working away in the back end, create new content item, click the Source Editor button (with no content yet in the RTE area) and the modal background covers the page and the frame of the source editor window is drawn but there is no text box in it and it has a dark area/graphic at top right. The only way to continue is to refresh the browser which of course means you lose any changes made to that point. See attached screen cap for example. Unfortunately I can't replicate this consistently but it has happened to me at least 10 times in the past 2 days, it currently seems to be pretty random. Currently only tested in latest Chrome, will try to see if it happens in IE later.

Check for javascript errors when this happens, might help. And if there are any, the "real" error might be hiding so would be great if you can have Fiddler open while clicking the source editor and see what the actual error is.

Something very similar happened again, this time no trace of the Source Editor modal window, but the modal overlay did appear. Clicking modal overlay did nothing, only option was to refresh browser. Chrome console had the following: Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 400 (Bad Request) http://devsitename.local/umbraco/UmbracoApi/Authentication/IsAuthenticated It happened after not touching the admin for a few min. Refreshing browser the session was still active and was not asked to login again.
