It would be nice if the media picker remembered the latest folder you used so you don't have to go from the root all the time.
This would be so handy. We have a fairly comprehensive media folder structure and our pages have more than one media picker on them all picking from the same folder. Its annoying to always have to browse to that folder on every pick.
I totally agree, it's a must have feature for a quality cms
Instead of browsing, the search feature in the copy dialog can be faster. Happy to look at a pull request if someone has some time to look into it.
Searching is not practical. Asset naming on upload depends on the user giving files a decent name. The media library is a visual thing not a textual thing. Folders provide structure and hierarchy. In our case (and I doubt it's unique) we have thousands of image assets. If the user searched for assets rather than browsed we would end up with assets being chosen from disparate unrelated parts of the tree making it a nightmare to manage. If the dialog can remember what folder was open, my editors life, our asset managers life and my life will be far more peaceful and our wellbeing will remain in a state of harmony knowing that the editors are not having to browse the same pathway 5 times per page they edit, and they create on average 5-10 new pages a day.
Have had a look at this one here as recognise the issue. Hopefully harmony can be restored :-) https://github.com/umbraco/Umbraco-CMS/pull/763
Nice work Andy! This feature is great - we hacked something similar into a site a while back and it works well.
I think this could also be useful to add to the Content Picker & MNTP, especially handy when dealing with multilingual sites.
Thanks, Andy! This feature is very useful and will be one of the most awaited in the media-related area along with [http://issues.umbraco.org/issue/U4-5386 U4-5386] and [https://github.com/umbraco/Umbraco-CMS/pull/497 this PR-497], which unfortunately disappeared from the 7.3 issues list some time ago. I think, Tom will totally agree too ;-)
@tomnf - had a quick look at extending this to content but that looks quite a bit more involved (content pickers being related to the application tree pickers). Not something I'll be able to get into currently so will have to leave my PR as media only.
Maybe a solution could be to remember the last 5 (example) used folders. And show them in the top of the list of folders.
@Mikkel.Johansen that is a very good idea. +1 from me :-)
