U4-5873 - Grid data type: Specify allowed macro types on the data type itself

Created by Andy Dyton 24 Nov 2014, 17:06:27 Updated by Shannon Deminick 26 Jun 2017, 06:40:03

It would be really useful to be able to specify which macros are allowed in a grid data type, currently the only option is to enable any macro to be added into the grid.

In the majority of use cases I can see it being preferable to be more granular about which macros may be used.

In a related issue [http://issues.umbraco.org/issue/U4-5723] the recommended resolution to this problem was to add another checkbox to macros for "Use in grid", in addition to the "Use in rich text editor".

The downside of this approach is that it assumes that the same set of macros will be suitable for all grid data types.

Allowing the admin to select which macros may be used in the data type offers a simpler, more tailored experience for the user and unlocks the possibility of grid types being used for more specific use cases.
