In v7 you can select from a pre-defined set of icon colours for document types. There is no way to change the color of the Recycle Bin icon, though.
This is especially evident if one uses non-black icons for all document types... the content tree is then a list of green or blue or other bright colurs with a very pronounced black trash can at the bottom.
Perhaps right-clicking on the recycle bin would bring up a 'Do something else' button that then has 'change icon colour'? Or possibly on the Properties tab of the recycle bin it could be changed there?
No matter how it is implemented from a UI/UX perspective, the value of having a complete set of coordinated icons, including the Recycle Bin, is worthwhile.

Still valid and would still be very helpful to visually differentiate the recycle bin from 'regular' pages.
