U4-6492 - Upgrading to 6.2.5 results in empty 3rd party package sections

Created by Matt Taylor 02 Apr 2015, 08:34:13 Updated by Shannon Deminick 26 Jun 2017, 07:11:21

As discussed here https://our.umbraco.org/forum/ourumb-dev-forum/bugs/63714-Empty-package-sections-after-upgrade-from-622-to-625 upgrading to 6.2.5 leaves the sections of installed packages unusable.

Steps to recreate:

Install 6.2.2
Install SEO Checker package 1.8.1
Copy over 6.2.5 files (bin, Install, Umbraco, Umbraco_Client) leaving out Config & Umbraco/Config files as I don't think there's anything different and you'd only have to merge them for the SEO Checker package
Run the upgrade to 6.2.5
Open Umbraco and navigate to the SEO Checker section

The SEO Checker section shows a single node 'Seo Checker' and that's all.

Happens for a variety of packages.

It looks like the syntax of the trees.config file changed with this update.

Each tree used to have these attributes :

assembly="SEOChecker" type="Trees.SEOCheckerTree"

after the update it needs to be like this:

type="SEOChecker.Trees.SEOCheckerTree, SEOChecker"

So the workaround for broken installs would be to fix the trees.config file manually.
