U4-7936 - Clicking the Recycle Bin shows "Session expired" login screen

Created by Chriztian Steinmeier 10 Feb 2016, 21:20:09 Updated by Sebastiaan Janssen 11 Feb 2016, 14:49:15

What did you do?

  • As an "Editor" user type, I clicked the Recycle Bin in the Content Tree

What did you expect to happen?

  • To see the Recycle Bin contents (or maybe nothing, as is also the custom for some tree nodes)

What actually happened?

  • I got a login screen with a "Your Session has expired" message (localized).
  • Furthermore, it's not possible to login again from that screen - it just comes back. If I manually edit the URL and change it to /umbraco/ I'm already logged in and back in the Content section again.

The above does not happen for the Admin user, i.e. I'm not taken to a login screen - I get the Recycle Bin dashboard as expected.

Can repro! I was almost going to ask how to make the recycle bin show up but then I remembered I always set a start not for editor type users. So to repro you have to allow editors access to the root.

Ah OK - I do that too, but this one's going to be overseeing all the subsites so she needs access to the root tree. Great to know that it won't be a problem for all her other editors then, as they'll only have access to specific nodes.

Not sure how this worked before but if the user doesn't have access to the data types it cannot load the content list view data type. To fix this we need a content/media endpoint to fetch for the recycle bin item.
