U4-8444 - Add support for default content (template) to grid

When creating a page with a grid property editor, it would be nice to be able to provide a template. For instance two rows with different column layout. A header editor in the first row, and an RTE in the second.

PR here: https://github.com/umbraco/Umbraco-CMS/pull/1264 A few issues with the current implementation. See comments in the PR.

Released as prerelease package on nuget for now. See http://blog.aabech.no/archive/templatable-grid-for-umbraco/

@lars-erik I'd like to know more about this idea, did you do a blog post about it (or video)? I'm wondering if this might work better as a package at first? (At least to prove its usage & value). Conceptually it sounds good to me! :-)

Thanks for noticing, @leekelleher. :) There's no demo avail. at the moment, but I'm sure it's a good idea to create a package and demo it. I've been considering it the last couple of weeks actually. Reason I only made the PR is that @pploug and I agreed it should be PR'd back in march or something. But I guess time to market is easier with a package.

@lars-erik It's probably me being lazy (and wanting a lower barrier for trying it out). We've been chatting a lot within our company about ways to template the Grid for content-editors and this looks worth exploring further.

Here's a demo. :) http://recordit.co/jheai7zEly

@lars-erik Cool, thanks so much for the demo! #h5yr It's giving me a lot to think about. I'll feedback soon!

\o/

I'll see about creating a standalone repo and alpha package.

Lee Kelleher 26 Sep 2016, 10:35:45

@lars-erik No pressure though, I don't want to add to your workload :-)

:D You're just shifting it around a bit. It's already in the backlog.
